Post-Maintenance Chains

Have you ever wondered why certain days have so many S-Rank Hunt marks spawning all at the same time? It's probably because it's the first window after a maintenance.

FFXIV will often have several-hour-long maintenance periods which will shut down the live servers temporarily. This will reset all S-Rank timers. Not all maintenances will shut down the servers. Faloop will show a countdown timer if a full S-Rank reset maintenance is scheduled.

For reasons some hunters theorize**, some S-Ranks might be β€œlinked” after the servers come back up. This means that their hidden timer is the same. If one S-Rank in the link pops, the other S-Rank in that link will also pop.

Instances change often and may work for some worlds and not others.

**The hunt community has connected several points of information to theorize why post-maintenance links exist:

  1. The zones for S-Ranks within a chain are believed to be hosted on the same server hardware based on information from Lodestone updates.

  2. When this server hardware is restarted after maintenance, (time-based) seeds for randomization are produced.

  3. The S-Ranks in the zones hosted on the same server hardware presumably receive the same seed, resulting in the same randomly generated hidden timer.
